After much internal debate, I've decided to officially discontinue this project. Read here for the explanation why. This page will be left up for anyone curious.

This page describes how to run the Java-based demos for the Tiamat role-playing game framework.

Running
Camineet Demo
Sprite Walker

Running
All demos are packaged in executable jar files called <demo_name>.jar. They can be run in one of two ways:

Within Windows explorer you can double-click on a jar file to execute it. For some reason it has a Wordpad icon.

From a command-line you can execute java -jar <jarname>.jar.

Camineet Demo
The Camineet Demo is an adventure game based on the original Phantasy Star. You play a student in the town of Camineet that stumbles into a tiny quest.

All controls for the game are along the right side of the frame. Along the bottom is a box that displays messages. The menu options are pretty self-explanatory.

Controls:
Up/Down Arrows: Scroll through menu selections.
Enter: Execute the selected menu option.
Page Up/Page Down: Scroll the dialog panel.
Mouse: Click on menu items.

Click the X in the top corner to quit.

Choosing the 'save' menu will bring up a dialog box to select a location to save. Don't save a game in the \Dataxxxx directories because those are rebuild when a new game starts. Otherwise, it doesn't matter where you choose to save the game or what you call the file.

Choosing the 'load' menu brings up a dialog to select a saved game. It works remarkably like every other file selecting dialog thingy.

Sprite Walker
The Sprite Walker Demo is used to test Sprites (and Sprite animation techniques). It's pretty simple to use. Just open a Sprite and move it around with the arrow keys.

Use the Background menu to select a background color or tile image.

The browse button opens up a dialog to select a Sprite. There are a couple included in the \samples directory.

This slider controls the animation speed of the Sprite.
